Sly Cooper's Cane

This one one was my first lil' projects that didn't take any electronic components. I had toyed with the idea of finding a way to house an arduino or some components that would play the sound of the clue bottles being broken when swung, but I stuck to simple.

I have an Ender 3, 3D printer, which has a smaller printbed than that of something like the Ender 5. With bed size in consideration, I often hope to find 3D models for larger objects that are broken up into combinable pieces. I found this model by PowerUpProps on My Mini Factory. Once I had the pieces printed, I used hot glue to piece them together.

I went to Lowe's to try and find a dowel of some kind that I might be a nice shape for the cane handle. While I was walking through one of the masonry aisles, my eyes locked onto these single table legs that were haging on a wall peg. With it being wider at the top, and slimming down to the metal boot/foot, it was perfect! Good length, too. I ended up using a power drill and a hole-saw bit to bevel-out the top, so that the hole in the head of the cane could be filled with hot glue, and fit the table leg into it.

While I was at Lowe's looking for my handle, I picked up some wood stain in the shade of "Espresso". This part was oddly therapeutic for me! With most of my projects involving micro-computers, and simple programming, I found the stroke of a brush surprisingly soothing after 3 coats. I had taped off the metal foot of the table leg with the intention of later painting it a gold that would match the head of the cane, but instead of trying to match the shade of gold with paint, I decided that scaling down the cane-foot piece from PowerUpProps' model by like, 30% would look better on the tapered table leg.

Voila! The finished product! The filament I used had a glossy, metallic shine to it, so I'm not sure if it was my print quality, or the filament that gave it such hard seams in some places. Regardless, I'm pretty happy to have been able to make such an iconic part of my childhood.

Sly cosplay coming soon...! ;))

Splicer and Sly with the Ghost Busters

And so it did! Attended my very first Comic Con in this bad boy. I had an awesome time just walking around in this for 5 hours or so! There were lots of merch stands and whatnot, but I had the most fun feeling like a celebrity for a day! Think I had 25 people or so wanting photos with me, and each one made me so happy to take! Made a lot of people really happy to see Sly after so many years since the last game. Seemed to evade Carmelita yet again!
